Life couldn’t be more a contrast for our north London locals in the Transfer Tavern right now as the Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur fans crowd around the bar. 

The Gunners are cursing the fact their title challenge appears to have ended earlier than even they expected, while the Spurs supporting punters are dancing in delirious delight as their side move into second place.

Though the skies are burning brighter at White Hart Lane than the Emirates Stadium right now, the Gunners propping up the bar can always joke their bitter rivals are yet to finish above them in the Premier League era.

However, it seems Spurs are moving forward under Mauricio Pochettino at breakneck speed, whereas Arsenal continue to stall with Le Prof in charge at the Emirates. With that in mind, here are TWO things the latter really should learn from the former as soon as humanly possible.

Contracts, Contracts, Contracts!

Over the course of the summer and beyond, Spurs have moved to tie down their very top talents to long-term contracts in quick succession.

Obviously, the landscape of modern football means penning lengthy deals means little in the way of not leaving if the right offer comes in, they do at least provide a certain message at the time.

Perhaps the feelings surrounding the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil would subside if their deals had been addressed as quickly as the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli’s.

Going to Plan B

This season, Mauricio Pochettino has introduced a second system to his ranks, occasionally switching to a 3-4-3 formation at times, after seeing his team struggle for solutions towards the end of last season.

All too often, the Gunners look bereft of ideas and hope their vast array of technicians will come up with a moment of genius. Though that may work once in a while, they really need a defined system.
