Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are having a hell of a time recently. Indeed, while things haven’t been great for a few years now, the manner in which this season has gone on the whole, has seriously annoyed our resident Gunners.

After losing three matches in a week across three competitions a few months back, the pressure started to mount more than normal on Arsene Wenger. Our Gunners fans in the bar are certainly not happy with recent times, but more importantly their displays on the pitch, with many of their players looking like they’ve given up.

As always the Arsenal contingent across the social media platforms have been very vocal over what the Emirates outfit need to push this team forward. Indeed, a few decent signings could finally transform this team of average achievements in recent years into the genuine title contenders next season and it needs to happen ASAP!

It may look a long way away right at this moment in time, but our landlord feels that after the two signings in the January window, a further TWO in key areas could be the making of this Arsenal side. With that in mind, here are his two players that could turn around fortunes at the Emirates…

Jan Oblak

Arsenal are in desperate need of a strong goalkeeper in between the sticks to cement his place for many years to come. With Petr Cech going into his mid-30’s, especially with him showing signs of this in recent months and back-up ‘keeper David Ospina not up to the level needed, the Gunners have to start to look to replace him with a younger version.

Jan Oblak is Atletico Madrid’s No.1 and is one of the best in La Liga, if not the whole of Europe and the Arsenal strikers can take a closer look at him in the semi-finals of the Europa League. The Slovenian stands at well over six foot and is still only 25 and, with many years to offer, he surely must be a target.

Fabinho

Fabinho is a 24-year-old defensive midfielder who loves nothing better than to get in amongst it in the centre of the park. Arsenal have desperately needed a strong holding midfielder for many many years now, and none come better than the Monaco man at present.

He also has an eye for goal, picking up a handful of goals so far this season, so would add an awful lot into their current midfield. Indeed, he could be the midfield lynchpin that the Gunners and the fans have been looking for at long, long last
