Well…what a summer it has been for Arsenal yet again.
The Gunners have been under the public eye for much of the window again, with Alexis Sanchez’s future constantly debated, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain joining Liverpool, and French star Thomas Lemar seeing a big money move fall through.
Our Arsenal fans here in the Tavern have spent much of the week sat with heads in hands at our bar, with many wondering just what is next around the corner for the club they love so dearly.
However, our landlord thinks that one player in the Gunners squad is lucky to be holding onto his place, and that manager Arsene Wenger should get rid ASAP.
That player? Midfielder Granit Xhaka.
The Polish midfielder was a big money buy last year when he made the move to England, with many thinking he would be the missing link Arsenal have been missing since the loss of Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva over a decade ago.
However, he just does not look like being the part at the moment. Consistently booked, off the pace, and seemingly frustrated with his surroundings, Xhaka is just not having the impact many expected in the Premier League.
Manager Wenger could well be wise to try and move him and completely refresh his squad when the winter window rolls round in four months time. His wages, and the fee Arsenal could no doubt still command for him, would free up much needed space and funds to allow the club to go and strengthen their ranks for the second half of the season.
