Our Chelsea fans are feeling good here in the Transfer Tavern and are looking for some signings to boost them further in January.

The Blues are currently top of the league and are remaining confident that they can go on to win the title this season with their 3-4-3 system working brilliantly so far.

Antonio Conte brought the system into play earlier this season after Arsenal beat them 3-0 at the Emirates and ever since it has made them look like a very good unit indeed.

It has led the Blues’ boss to use, pretty often, the same core bunch of players and so, whilst they must be happy, there are inevitably some that are going to barely play at all.

Surely, then, it’d be best to get rid of the extra options that are obviously surplus to requirements at the moment and our landlord reckons these two need to go in particular, this week…

Branislav Ivanovic

Ivanovic started the season in the Chelsea side but he looks a long way away from playing in it now.

He’s lost what little pace he had and, ultimately, isn’t good enough now to be a top-level defender. He’s been a loyal servant to the Blues and so that deserves a mention but he needs to be shifted on for the club to move onto their next chapter. He could still do a job lower down in the division, though, so he may not be gone from these shores just yet.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Our landlord thinks a loan deal could really benefit Loftus-Cheek, who must be getting frustrated at the lack of opportunities at Stamford Bridge.

The young midfielder has the potential to be a good Premier League level player but, like all young stars, he needs to be playing games in order to learn what it takes to be just that. Chelsea need to offer him out on loan this window, then, and there’d surely be plenty of interest.
