Sunderland fans in the Transfer Tavern have been cursing their luck this season as it seems nothing is going the Black Cats’ way as they find themselves in the relegation zone.

That being said, January could well be a time of transition for David Moyes’ men as the club look to get in personnel to propel them to safety as well as discard some dead wood that lays on the fringes of the squad.

Just they did last season with Sam Allardyce, they’ll be looking to bring in players that make a real difference but down at the bottom of the league it’s all about balancing the books.

Arguably the main target for David Moyes this transfer window will be to keep hold of Jermaine Defoe, whose goals will prove to be invaluable for Sunderland throughout the season.

As Sunderland desperately try to hang on to Defoe, here are two players that Moyes can simply do without in his squad according to our landlord…

Jack Rodwell

With no wins in 34 games and counting with Rodwell in the team, Moyes simply must get rid of this bad luck charm if he is to keep Sunderland up this season.

Once deemed a player with a lot of potential, Rodwell has been disappointing this season and though Didier Ndong will be absent whilst at the Africa Cup of Nations – Moyes must look in the market for another centre-midfielder instead of using Rodwell to fill the void.

A disappointing summary for a player who possessed so much potential, maybe a story of a player being destroyed by expectation.

Wahbi Khazri

Outstanding in last season’s Premier League survival, Black Cats fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left scratching their head as to what has happened to Wahbi Khazri this season.

With a lack of fitness being the issue in the early part of the season, Khazri has failed to convince David Moyes that he deserves a starting spot at the Wearside club and with the likes of Adnan Januzaj ahead of him in the pecking order, we may see him on his way soon.
