Keep or axe? Rodgers needs to make a big decision on these 3 Celtic stars

Celtic battled to a tough 2-1 win away at Dundee this weekend, which marked another step in Brendan Rodgers’ push for the Scottish Premier League title.

Bhoys fans here in the pub have watched on with delight this season as their side have cantered to the SPFL title, despite Rangers’ reintroduction back into the top flight.

It’s been a year of ease for Brendan Rodgers, who might’ve expected more from Gers in the title race this campaign but in hindsight, it’s been one of the easiest season’s Celtic have had in years.

Barring their earlier-than-expected exit from the Champions League, Bhoys fans here in the pub have been happy with progress made under former Liverpool boss Rodgers, who will be shortly turning his attention to next season.

And with a busy summer expected at Paradise, there will be plenty of players who might not know where their future’s lie next season.

So with that in mind, here’s 3 Celtic stars who Brendan Rodgers really has to make a decision on this summer…

KEEP (if possible): Patrick Roberts

Patrick Roberts has been a superb player for Celtic this season and at times, has been the difference in a number of games this campaign.

Bhoys fans are real admirers of the Manchester City loanee, who will return to the Etihad at the end of the season.

But we think he’s the sort of player that would be well worth spending money on to keep at Paradise if possible.

With Moussa Dembele set to be the target of an international transfer tug-of-war this summer, there could be money to spend if they do sell the Frenchman too.

AXE: Efe Ambrose

Currently spending time on-loan with Hibs, Efe Ambrose is a player who isn’t best liked amongst fans here in the Tavern.

He struggled during “that” Champions League wobble against Gibraltan side Lincoln Red Imps and hasn’t at all impressed when given the chance this season.

With the likes of Sviatchenko, Simunovic and Boyata all infront of him in the pecking order, it’s unlikely he’ll be getting back into the first-team any time soon either.

He’s certainly one Rodgers should axe this summer.

KEEP: Gary Mackay-Steven

Some fans here in the pub feel a little sorry for former Dundee United man Gary Mackay-Steven, who has struggled for game-time during large parts of this campaign.

But the Scotsman is certainly one of the most talented and skilful players around in the division right now, and deserves the chance to shine in the first-team under Brendan Rodgers going forward.
