Chelsea are leading the line when it comes to making summer signings after welcoming Ben Chilwell to Stamford Bridge.
The former Leicester defender joins the likes of Timo Werner and Thiago Silva through the door this window. Frank Lampard is certainly not holding back in his mission to transform Chelsea into a title-winning side.
Kevin Phillips is amongst those in awe of Lampard’s lavish summer spending spree. Speaking to Football Insider, the former Sunderland man has waxed lyrical over the appointment of Chilwell.

“I think it is a good price for a young, talented England full-back,” he said. “He has got years and years ahead of him. I think it is smart business from Chelsea. Frank Lampard will have been delighted to have got him through the door.”
The Blues secured the deal for £50million after weeks of ongoing talks with Leicester. Brendan Rodgers was eager to keep hold of the 23-year-old but with Roman Abramovich backing Lampard’s decision, Chelsea talked too sweet a deal for the Foxes boss to ignore.
Chilwell will likely replace Marcos Alonso, who has been rumoured to be leaving Stamford Bridge. The Spaniard has been linked with Newcastle and several other clubs ahead of the upcoming season.
“Knowing the kid, having worked with him, he has a fantastic attitude both on and off the pitch,” Phillips continued. “It is a great signing and I am really looking forward to seeing him settle in at Chelsea and play well.”

The England international looks like he will fit the bill under Lampard, who has been successful in nurturing young talent during his debut season at the hilt. Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount have both become regular first team players and Chilwell could be part of his next big project.
