Liverpool fans here inside the Transfer Tavern are considering the impossible come January.

Not since 1964 has a player transferred from Man United to Liverpool, many have played for both clubs like Paul Ince, Micheal Owen and Peter Beardsley – if only for one game – but none since Phil Chisnall have directly made the move.

However, Jurgen Klopp could make history with an audacious bid for United left-back Luke Shaw, with his contract due to expire in the summer and currently out of favour with United boss Jose Mourinho, it may not be as much of a crazy idea as our punters think.

Despite barely playing this season through injury and bad form, Shaw still has the capabilities to be a top class full back and given the right stage he could fulfil his potential.

Fits Klopp’s style of play

Shaw is an exciting attacking left back when 100% fit and Klopp loves full-backs that can bomb up and down the wing in support of his forward line.

Shaw made his name playing just that way in his Southampton days, while Liverpool have a rich recent history dealing with the Saints directly they’ll know that Shaw has come from a good background.

Shaw has something to prove

There’s no better feeling than getting one over on your rivals and Liverpool are no different, therefore signing Shaw would be a win for the Reds but, more importantly. they’ll get a player that has a point to prove.

Shaw’s United career hasn’t lived up to the expectations of many and the England man will want to show that he’s still got it in his locker.
