Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are happy with how their team is performing and raising expectations at the club this season and feel that it’s been a long-time coming after a difficult period on their illustrious history.

After a stumbling start to the Premier League season and a lot of defensive errors, the Reds seem to have addressed that issue by signing Virgil Van Dijk, who has made a huge difference to the team ever since his arrival under Jurgen Klopp this calendar year.

Klopp’s decision to let Coutinho leave in January seems to show a sign that he will be going to be changing focus and potentially the way the Reds play going forward into next season and beyond so, for Liverpool, these are certainly promising times on Merseyside.

With money still burning a hole in their pocket and being right in the fight for the Champions League this year following their astonishing two-leg win over Man City, the German is looking towards the 2018/19 season to finally bring some success to Anfield under his guidance. The need to level up

This is a must for the German coach if he is to go down in Liverpool folklore. In order to keep attracting the big players, Liverpool must start to look and spend like a big top-four club in the Premier League, especially after their showing in Europe so far this season.

United, City and Chelsea seem to do it on a yearly basis and Liverpool must make the step up to take them to that level. That being said, it won’t be easy, things could change, but at present, it’s looking likely that Liverpool will have to fight off Man City to have any chance of reaching their goals. That’s going to be tough, but Klopp has the frontline and in Mo Salah, the man to do it.

Domestic dominance

In order to kickstart a successful period for a club, often a trophy is the starting point. Many look back at Mourinho’s start at Chelsea in which he quickly won the League Cup in his first year, before following it with a Premier League crown and that sort of mentality has been missing at Anfield for many years now.

Many of our regulars feel Klopp needs some silverware to really show that his time at the club isn’t only seen as a brand of football. Liverpool have had a tough time on that front for many a year, but if the Reds are to reach their lofty ambitions, they need to start winning more trophies.
