Liverpool: Dossena says Koulibaly could be Jurgen Klopp’s missing piece

Former Liverpool player Andrea Dossena believes that Kalidou Koulibaly is the “piece” Jurgen Klopp is missing to complete a “stratospheric” squad.

The Reds have been continually linked with a move for the 28-year-old in recent weeks, who is valued at £50.4m by Transfermarkt. However, it is said that it will cost any buying club between €50m (£44.8m) and €70m (£62.7m) to capture his services. The Reds have been handed a boost in the past few days, with it being revealed that PSG have pulled out of the race for his signature.

Speaking to Radio Music TV (via SportsMole), Dossena believes that the Senegal international is exactly what the European champions are missing. He said:

“Klopp is missing one piece to complete a stratospheric squad and the Koulibaly-Van Dijk pairing could become a big barrier. Liverpool have no economic problems and therefore a deal with the English club would be within reach.”

It could already be argued that the Reds have a “stratospheric” group of players. They are the current European champions, after all, and lead the Premier League by a huge 25 points – the biggest such margin in the history of the whole division.

Koulibaly’s ability is there for all to see – he has an average WhoScored rating of over seven in each full season at Napoli – but with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez already at Klopp’s disposal, it is hard to see how much of an improvement he would be.
