But with the imminent arrival of the Chilean grabbing the attention of many Manchester United fans, Juan Mata is quickly becoming a forgotten man. According to a report by The Daily Star, Valencia are hoping to take advantage of Mata’s situation and agree a pre-contract deal with him. This would mean that he moves to Valencia on a free transfer in the summer window.
The Spain international’s current deal at Old Trafford expires this summer and reports suggesting that a one year contract extension had been activated are reportedly wide of the mark. Manchester United do not mind shifting his £170k per week wages, especially with Sanchez’s signing expected soon.
Mata has a total of 48 goals and 46 assists to his name in the Premier League in 212 appearances. This season, the 29-year-old has played 21 games, scoring three goals.
But Valencia are hoping to take the Spaniard back to Spain when he becomes a free agent at the end of this season.

Juan Mata is still a very good squad option for Jose Mourinho and he should be given a new one year contract. With Sanchez coming in, it is unlikely that he will play every game and this could force him to seek a move away. But the 29-year-old still has a future at Old Trafford and his experience and technical ability is worth keeping.
