Celtic have been outstanding in the Scottish Premiership in recent times after struggling a bit towards the start of the campaign.
The Hoops will have their eyes set firmly on securing a third successive treble under Brendan Rodgers, but advancing in the Europa League is still a big worry for the Glasgow side.
Indeed, things haven’t all been positive for the club in the last year or so, with problems off the field halting their progress at times and really causing them trouble. Indeed, Peter Lawwell hasn’t always made the best of decisions, with a couple of transfer related problems resulting in a drop in form this season.
With that in mind, it’s obvious that Peter Lawwell has made these TWO mistakes…
SELLING MOUSSA DEMBELE
Moussa Dembele was arugably one of the best pieces of transfer business that the club ever managed to complete, as he managed to help them secure a number of pieces of silverware by scoring 51 goals at Celtic Park.
However, the Frenchman departed during the summer months as he jetted off to Lyon, which didn’t go down very well with supporters as their star man had just left the club.
The Hoops did very little to deal with the departure as they failed to bring in a replacement, which has resulted in Odsonne Edouard having to carry the main load this season.
LACK OF EUROPEAN PREPARATION
Celtic managed to bring in the likes of Odsonne Edouard, Youssouf Mulumbu, Scott Bain, Emilio Izaguirre, Daniel Arzani and Filip Benkovic during the summer months. However, none of these signings are good enough to have an impact in Europe, apart from Edouard, which has been evident this season.
The club’s preparation for the current campaign was poor as they’d let their Champions League talisman Dembele leave Celtic Park and didn’t do anything about bringing in more quality to help their quest, which resulted in them being knocked out of the competition during the qualification stages.
