Leeds fans couldn’t possibly have missed anyone more than they did Pontus Jansson at Elland Road against Derby County. The Swede started on the bench as a precaution after returning from injury and both Gaetano Berardi and Liam Cooper did their utmost to make that look like a mistake. Now, though, it looks like Jansson may have played his last game.

Pontus Jansson is one of the Championship’s best defenders and whilst he may not have been able to single-handedly stop the onslaught from Frank Lampard’s Derby County at Elland Road, he’d have been much better prepared to than Cooper and Berardi. His recent comments have left a lot of fans worried as that pairing could be the one that Marcelo Bielsa is relying upon next season.
Anyone who wanst to read Jansson’s comments can do so on the Yorkshire Evening Post’s website, but a warning for Leeds fans: it can read very much like a farewell message. If anything the Swede seems like he’ll be off this summer from the way he talks about the harrowing defeat, and even after such a strong season in the second-flight, even Jansson himself cannot believe that the Elland Road faithful haven’t been promoted.

The Whites all seem to agree that Jansson’s words came across as a goodbye, and they’ll be desperately hoping they’ve read it wrong and he stays.
