The resident Bhoys in the Transfer Tavern were relieved to see their side scrape through to the Europa League after securing a third placed finish in Group B last night.
Celtic were always going to struggle to qualify for the knockout phases of the Champions League after being drawn alongside two of Europe’s heavyweights, namely Bayern Munich and Paris St Germain in the group stage. Qualification for the knockout phase had long been out of the question for Brendan Rodgers, but they had the chance to qualify for the Europa League yesterday evening.
The Hoops final game of the competition saw them pit their wits against Belgium’s current Champions RSC Anderlecht, in a game that decided the fate of both clubs European adventures this season.
Despite suffering a 1-0 defeat at Celtic Park thanks to a Jozo Simunovic own goal in the 62nd minute, Celtic qualified for the Europa League knockout stages due to their superior head to head record against Anderlecht.
The evening fixture was a big night for everybody involved at the club, but it was particularly important for Celtic captain Scott Brown.
Brown overtook Kenny Dalglish’s record number of top-tier European appearances with his 69th appearance in the competition, and the club acknowledged his achievement via their official Twitter page.
Congratulations to @ScottBrown8 who tonight overtakes Kenny Dalglish to become the Scotsman with the most top-tier European appearances. pic.twitter.com/ebPtiy3BmD

The majority of Celtic supporters expressed their admiration for their club captain and congratulated him on his personal milestone.
However, there was one supporter who expressed his disappointment over Celtic’s lack of success on the European stage.
Here’s what the fans had to say about Brown’s achievement on Twitter…
Superb again last night, pity about the rest of the team
