Southampton fans here in the Tavern won’t want a repeat of the last campaign as they only just managed to avoid relegation to the Championship. Although, the Saints are still preparing for the new campaign, but they’re running out of time.
Indeed, Southampton will need to enjoy a few successful weeks before the start of the new campaign as they haven’t managed to bring in enough reinforcements thus far.
Many of our local residents believe that the next few weeks could be make or break in terms of Southampton’s season, with a poor few weeks possibly condemning them to another relegation battle.
So, with plenty of things still yet to be completed at St Mary’s, time is ticking as the new Premier League campaign edges closer.
With that in mind, here’s TWO things that could cause for concern…
Guido Carrillo became Southampton’s club-record signing back in January, but he just couldn’t find the back of the net during the second half of the season as a complete waste of space and money.
However, the striker has been sent out on a year-long loan to Spain, so the Saints are looking a little shallow in attacking areas as the new season edges closer.
Therefore, Southampton could find themselves near the bottom of the table as one of the lowest scorers once again if they fail to bring in a quality replacement for the South American.
Mario Lemina has been linked with a move away from St Mary’s over the past six months, but everything has gone rather quiet in recent weeks.
But, with other teams trying to get their business done quickly before the transfer window comes to a close, many of our local residents are concerned that a club may come in for the central midfielder.
Indeed, the Gabon international established himself as Southampton’s star player last season, so they could find themselves in deep trouble if he ends up departing at some point in the next few weeks.
