Les Reed made a huge transfer mistake not bringing these 2 stars to Southampton in January

Our Southampton fans here in the Transfer Tavern were hoping for a more productive transfer window to stop the downward slide they have been on since November.

The Saints were in desperate need of a goalscorer, and the recent signing of Guido Carrillo from Monaco will hopefully help the problem as our regulars have seen Southampton struggle in front of goal for most of the season.

Manager Mauricio Pellegrino hasn’t got his team firing this season at all, and the Saints find themselves in the bottom three. Without a win in the Premier League since November, Southampton needed to invest heavily in this January window and with the one incoming, our punters feel like they will regret this decision come to the end of the season.

Our landlord takes a closer look at two players that the board should have been doing everything they could to bring into the club…

Quincy Promes

The Dutch winger can play in any of the three positions across the midfield but is deadlier coming in the from left. Promes currently plays for Spartak Moscow in the Russian League and, has helped himself to 13 goals and eight assists in 23 appearances.

This type of return is what Southampton need at this moment of time and even though Promes is unproven, his style of play would suit the Premier League with his pace and dribbling ability. Linked with a big move to the south coast, missing out on him has seriously annoyed supporters.

Salif Sane

The Hannover 96 centre back is playing a blinder this season, his tough tackling approach to games has made him one of the top performers in Europe this year. With the departure of Virgil Van Dijk to Liverpool, Saints were foolish not to go for the Senegalese defender.

He’s aerially sound and commands the box, much like VVD and could seriously have beefed up the backline.
