Our Liverpool fans here inside the Transfer Tavern have loved watching their team destroy sides from across Europe so far this season and long hope it may continue.

Liverpool, in recent times, have really turned on the gas and are firmly within the Champions League spots, much to the delight of our Reds in the bar. Jurgen Klopp has masterminded some fantastic wins this campaign and another impressive display in the Champions League against Roma only aided towards the growing stock Liverpool have this season.

Indeed, in the first half of the season things looked good but were always met with defensive disasters and lapses in concentration, which wasn’t helping their overall season. The majority of the players have kept a high level of performance each and every week, namely Mo Salah but some have been truly awful for our regulars to watch.

With that in mind, our landlord has been having a look at the Liverpool squad and has pointed out TWO players that have been awful so far in a season that could be a successful one come May…

Simon Mignolet

Liverpool have had goalkeeper problems all season long and one of the main factors behind that was in that the indecisive decision making of Klopp.

Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have been in and out of the team all season, up until recently when it seems the latter has taken the top spot and things have started to turn around with a regular voice behind the defence.

At the moment, Karius certainly seems to be the first choice although it is among a lot of speculation over a new possible ‘keeper coming in, and the Belgian may be heading out the Anfield door.

Joel Matip

The centre-back has been vying for one of the two places at the back of the defence alongside the Dutchman, Virgil Van Dijk. It’s a straight shootout between Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren to partner the VVD, and currently, Lovren is winning.

With the experience of Ragnar Klavan as a backup squad member, the Cameroonian may have to leave in search of regular first-team football many in the back room of the pub feel, and it wouldn’t be a huge miss in the team with him putting in a disappointing first half of the season.
