Spanish giants Real Madrid are eyeing up Tottenham’s Croatian playmaker Luka Modric but Spurs are demanding Turkish midfielder Nuri Sahin in return.
Madrid based paper Marca are reporting that Madrid are offering in the region of £30m for the midfield magician but reports in England today suggest that managerless Spurs will only accept a deal for wantaway Modric if former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Nuri Sahin is sent to White Hart Lane in part exchange.
Jose Mourinho is believed to have wanted Manchester City’s David Silva instead but having realised that the Premier League champions wouldn’t part with their Spanish star, he moved his attentions to Modric who starred for Croatia at Euro 2012. Modric is set for crunch talks over his future with chairman Daniel Levy and with Harry Redknapp leaving, it could be curtains for Modric’s time at Spurs.
But don’t fear – if Madrid accept Tottenham’s terms and include Nuri Sahin in the deal, Spurs will be receiving around £25m and the Turkish international. Sahin made his reputation with reigning Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund after a fantastic 3 year stint at Signal Iduna Park.
36 assists and 17 goals from central midfield gave him his big chance as Madrid came calling, looking for another ball playing midfielder to sit alongside Xabi Alonso and provide an effective link between the defence and attack.
Unfortunately for both Madrid and Sahin, the move hasn’t quite worked out. Injury and fitness problems have prevented Sahin from featuring much at the Santiago Bernabeu as he made just 10 appearances this season. Mourinho has been praising the 23 year old in the media in recent months and 2012 was seen as his breakout year, but he may be moved on shortly.
Whilst Tottenham fans will no doubt be gutted at losing a player of Modric’s quality, being able to have Sahin as his replacement plus £25m to spend on a striker would be fantastic business in my eyes. I’ve seen a fair amount of Sahin and can tell you he’s a superb player and would be a real coup for Spurs – and an asset for whoever the new manager is.

Dream on spuds Madrid are not that desperate for Modric COYI
Sat nav not working?!
Chimp chimp Cheroo
Spurs negotiate with clubs like Real Madrid. Who di West Ham negotiate with, eh ? Shrewsbury fu(kin Town no doubt. Your poxy excuse for a Premier League outfit will get relegated again this season, so why dont you crawl back down that sh!thole from where you came…
Sahin in a correct environment will be a BETTER player than Modric. He is as a matter of fact a BETTER all round player than Modric. More skillful, more assists, more goals scored etc. He is very similar to Scholes. I am still scratching my head thinking what is so exceptional with Modric and can’t figure out. He is not a Fabregas,Alonso,Xavi or Iniesta,Pirlo..I would be more gutted to lose Huddleston to be honest. A fully fit Huddleston is a better player than Modric anytime.
No way is Hudd a better player than Modric do you ever watch us play because if you do you would realise that Modric is in the center of everything we do and is by far are best player!
i agree. you know your football.
What a funny Wet Spammer! Don’t get to cockey or we’ll take your star player (not that you have one!) for the usual £1-2m and use him for cutting the half time oranges!
Good idea wouldn’t mind Tomkins as a bench warmer. West Ham supporters do make me laugh!!
Yet another day sees Chimp the Spammer so desperate to comment on a Spurs story. Whilst sympathising with his unfortunate choice of clubs to support, it is embarrassing to see a sad troll acting like the little boy with his nose pressed up against the window with eyes a green glazed colour. How difficult it must be to read about players like Modric and Sahin when you look at the footballing icons like Nolan that adorn his club.
Totally agree. Well said!
What a bunch of jokers. For those not clear what Modric offers – simple answer is the ability to dictate the pace of the game played by the other 19 outfield players on the pitch. Guile, ball carrying, ability to pick a pass – big tick next to them all. Yes it’s true he could improve his finishing but he brings so much more to the table. Oh and let’s be serious when is the last time one of these swap deals came off ! Not going to happen.
Yeah bandwagon boy… Have you watched us since Xmas??? Luka has been utter shite for 90% of it. Maybe his head was turned but no way near the player from season b4 last.. he needs charlie to hold his hand and is really just a big girl. Massively overrated and we will not miss him -actually he gave away so much in the last 20 games that we’ll probably be better off without him. You live in last season (2010/2011)- try actually watching one of our last 20 games b4 you comment. A shadow of what he was and absent far too often for my liking.. We lost 5-1 to chelsea, to norwich, to the goons when 2-0 up, everton, Manure, City, all with him in the team so cant be all that really… No bottle and no character + doesnt want to play for us – he can f-off really..
If anyone can make it happen, Levy can…Sahin would be just what the doctor ordered to replace Modric.
Erin… The last time we sold our best player.. Berbaknob for 32mil plus cambel on loan
Was done on deadline day tho…
Could the author of this *piece* please link me to Levy’s quotes where he DEMANDS this Turkish player as part of the Modric *deal*. Just wonderin’
Billy, maybe the question mark at the end of the headline asks if this is the case rather than states it as a certainty.
