Tottenham have been battling against a host of other clubs to win the signature of Brazilian sensation Leandro Damião, but just when they had hopes they had positioned themselves ahead of the likes of Arsenal, AC and Juve, another club has entered the chase.
The Internacional player was spotted by French paper L’Equipe visiting Paris Saint-Germain’s Parc des Princes for discussion, and PSG are desperate to complete a deal in this transfer window. What’s more, the Paris club may be one of the few able to afford the player’s ridiculous £50 million release fee, although they would begin bidding at £25 million.
PSG have turned their attention to the tall, classy striker after their bids for Pato and Hulk seem to have failed.
Tottenham had a £10 million bid rejected last summer, but as other teams interest has come and gone, Spurs had hopes that their commitment to the striker would convince him White Hart Lane is the place for him. Spurs, still with long-standing striker problems, would also be able to offer Damião a better chance at instant first team football, and likely Champions League football next season. It seems like a perfect match but, although Spurs fans will hate to admit it, there are still bigger names out there that appear to be turning Damião’s head.
Now with PSG and their Qatari Riyal on the scene it seems ‘Arry may have waited too long, and Spurs’ long quest to find a definitive number 9 looks set to continue.
