Liverpool must “clarify” their position on “world class” star

Liverpool must “clarify” their position on “world class” star

Liverpool are without a doubt in a period of transition after a difficult season both on and off the pitch.

It was only a year ago that the streets of Liverpool were filled with celebrations and a sea of red after the Merseyside giants secured their Premier League title, with Arne Slot in his first season in charge.

However, 12 months on, the situation at the club has brought uncertainty and disappointment at various stages of the campaign.

Liverpool marked their 20th league title win with a mega spending spree totalling an estimated £450m, adding some of the hottest prospects in world football, with Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz all part of a bumper recruitment drive.

Between injuries and struggles to adapt, the new additions haven’t had the desired impact as of yet, and to make matters worse, key figures at the club have announced their departures.

Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson have both been major influences in the success the Reds have achieved over the last decade, but have now confirmed their time at the club will come to an end this summer.

Losing two players with a world-class winning mentality will no doubt be detrimental to the Liverpool dressing room ahead of next season, and now reports have suggested another major exit could be on the cards.

It was confirmed last month that Alisson Becker had extended his contract for another year, but last week it was revealed that Juventus are interested in signing the goalkeeper, and he could be open to the move.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now weighed in on the situation, speaking on his YouTube channel:

“From my understanding, Alisson would be tempted by the possibility to return to Italy and try a new chapter after he did fantastic at Roma a few years ago with the same coach, who is now at Juventus, Luciano Spalletti.

“So, Alisson would be tempted by this possibility.”

“But Alisson doesn’t want to leave Liverpool in a bad way at all. Alisson wants to respect Liverpool. Alisson loves Liverpool. Alisson will not leave on bad terms.”

“So, now it’s on Liverpool to decide between now and the end of the season, to communicate with Alisson, discuss with him and decide what they want to do – whether they want to keep him, sell him, or open the door under certain conditions. There are several points to clarify in order to understand Alisson’s future.”

Should Liverpool sell Alisson Becker?

While Alisson has struggled with injuries, he is still undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the world and has proved it time and time again for Liverpool.

The 33-year-old Brazilian – once hailed as “world class” by BBC Sport pundit Stephen Warnock – does not have age on his side, but his experience and leadership qualities make him a huge asset both in the dressing room and on the pitch.

If Salah and Robertson were not already leaving, there might have been an opportunity to move on from Alisson and hand Giorgi Mamardashvili the starting role, but losing too many experienced winners in the squad could further deepen Liverpool’s issues.

With that being said, it would be a no-brainer for Liverpool to keep Alisson for next season.

His influence and experience could be vital as the squad transitions into a new era and helps ease the scale of change expected this summer.
