Liverpool: Fans are in dreamland as Gini Wijnaldum is set to pen a new deal

After months of worrying, fans can rest easy as Georginio Wijnaldum is reportedly ready to pen a new deal with Liverpool.

According to Football Insider (relayed via @AnfieldEdition) the Dutch international will commit his future to the champions of England with a ‘bumper new deal’.

Wijnaldum played an important part in Liverpool’s Champions League success last season, scoring two of the four goals against Barcelona in the semi-final at Anfield. He has also contributed five goals this season, including the winner against Sheffield United back at the start of the campaign (via Transfermarkt).

The 29-year-old has been with the club since 2016 and could be about to sign for a further four years. His move from Newcastle has seen him dominate both Europe and the Premier League, so it’s no wonder he wants to stay with the Merseyside outfit.

Liverpool fans are delighted to see him stay and have taken to Twitter to share in the good news. One supporter has said Wijnaldum has been a ‘great buy’ whilst another is simply thrilled with the ‘fantastic’ news. One Kopite in particular has told the club to ‘give him what he wants’ in order to ensure the deal is finalised.

Fantastic news, I’d like to see him given a bit more freedom to get into the box more like he does for the Netherlands. The 1 thing we can improve on is more goals from midfield. Gini can certainly do that!
