An image of Virgil van Dijk with Liverpool legend Sami Hyypia has got fans in dreamland as they imagine a back four with the two stalwarts at the heart.
The perfect centre-back partnership is an ongoing discussion amongst Liverpool fans, with many debating over who plays best alongside van Dijk. However, after a photo of the Dutchman standing alongside former Anfield defender Hyypia has emerged, fans are dreaming of the two leading Liverpool’s current defence.
During his time with the Merseyside outfit, Hyypia made 464 appearances and and scored an impressive 35 goals (via Transfermarkt) whilst keeping a clean sheet in 39.3% of his Premier League matches (via talkSPORT).
van Dijk joined Liverpool in 2017 and has transformed the back four, helping them lift their sixth Champions League trophy and sit 25 points clear at the top of this season’s Premier League.
Fans are loving the picture of the two centre-backs, with one supporter branding them ‘absolute greats of the game’. Another has said their partnership would be the ‘stuff of dreams’.
