Liverpool: Fans credit Virgil van Dijk after Villa victory

Liverpool supporters congratulated Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk for his performance during his side’s 2-1 victory against Aston Villa on Saturday at Villa Park.

The Reds managed to overturn a one-goal deficit and beat the Villians with a 94th-minute winner from Sadio Mane after a near-post header from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner.

Jurgen Klopp’s side found themselves 1-0 down after 20 minutes after a free-kick found the Egyptian striker Trezeguet unmarked at the far post for a gift of a goal. However, two goals in the seven minutes deep into the second half meant that Liverpool remain unbeaten and have only dropped two points in 11 games so far this season.

Although Van Dijk had a relatively quiet game in defence, he did everything that was asked of him after making five clearances and accumulating an average passing accuracy of 83%.

Supporters were delighted once more with the performance of the Holland international and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan credited him for a particular moment when the game was at 1-0 after making a crucial interception that kept his side in the game.
