Liverpool: Fans delighted that Virgil van Dijk is poised to sign a new long term contract

Loads of Liverpool fans exploded with delight after it was revealed that defender Virgil van Dijk is poised to sign a new contract at Anfield.

The Dutch talisman has become one of the Reds’ most prized assets since his £75m move from Southampton in 2018 and helped guide his side to Champions League glory in Madrid, who was seen as a “transformer” by sporting director Michael Edwards, as per the Independent. The Reds have tied down several first-team players with new deals such as Joe Gomez, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Now, the club wants to tie down another player to a lengthy contract.

Melissa Reddy – writing for the Independent – revealed that Van Dijk, who currently earns £180,000-a-week, looks set to be rewarded for his efforts, but no details of his new deal were included in the report. Supporters were ecstatic with the news and made their feelings clear on social media, with one fan saying that it simply needs to happen.
