Liverpool: Fans don’t agree with Jordan Henderson winning Player of the Season

Jordan Henderson has been crowned Liverpool’s Player of the Season following a sensational run in the Premier League.

The Standard Chartered award for 2019/20 goes to the skipper after he successfully guided his team to their first top-flight title in 30 years. Not only are the Reds the new Premier League champions, they are also reigning holders of the Club World Cup, Super Cup and Champions League.

However, this news has divided the Reds’ fan base and a lot of supporters feel that there were other players better suited for the award. Henderson missed seven Premier League matches last season due to hamstring and knee problems, whereas Virgil van Dijk was ever-present in their triumphant run (via Transfermarkt).

Indeed, the Dutchman is a name being discussed as who should’ve won the award, alongside Sadio Mane, who notched an impressive 18 goals and nine assists in the league. One supporter has replied to the news claiming it is ‘robbery’ that the award didn’t go to Mane, whilst another has gone as far as saying it is ’embarrassing’ to award Henderson the accolade.
