Liverpool: Fans excited by Dayot Upamecano transfer links

Many Liverpool fans expressed their delight as reports emerged linking the club with a move for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

The 21-year-old is being targeted as a possible replacement for Virgil van Dijk, as the Dutchman damaged his anterior cruciate ligament during his side’s 2-2 draw against Everton last week, according to Sunday World.

The report added that the Bundesliga outfit are expecting the Merseysiders to make their move for the defender in January, suggesting that an offer in excess of £40m would be difficult for Leipzig to turn down.

Upamecano has received lofty praise after putting in a string of consistent performances domestically and in the Champions League, with former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand describing him as “formidable” (via Independent).

He was even described by the Bundesliga’s official website as one of the “stars of tomorrow” and has duly attracred the interest of Jurgen Klopp.

Unsurprisingly, many supporters flocked to social media to plead with Liverpool to pay the money for the French “beast” in January in an attempt to fill the void left by Van Dijk’s injury.
