Liverpool: Fans not pleased with Fabrizio Romano’s update on prospective Thiago Alcantara transfer

Plenty of Liverpool fans were not pleased to see an update from Fabrizio Romano on the proposed transfer of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.

On Sunday morning, RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi tweeted that an agreement had been reached between the two clubs and that the Spain international had informed his team-mates of his impending departure, along with picking out a residence in Merseyside.

However, journalist Fabrizio Romano subsequently claimed on Twitter (via @FabrizioRomano) that despite personal terms not being an obstacle, Liverpool do not want to spend €30m (£27.15m) on him now when they can secure him on a free transfer next January.

This update has infuriated quite a few Reds supporters, seeing as the Premier League champions have been linked with Thiago ever since June (as per Sport Bild).

Also, the Anfield club have been rather frugal in the transfer market of late – they have spent just over £20m on new signings since the end of the 2018/19 season, with more than half of that coming from the recent £11.75m arrival of Kostas Tsimikas, while they missed out on transfer target Timo Werner earlier this summer after the German joined Chelsea instead.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter weren’t pleased with Romano’s update, with one supporter pleading with club owner John Henry to “open your pockets” given the Reds’ conservative transfer approach in recent times:
