Plenty of fanbases are surely itching for their club to get their hands on RB Leipzig’s defender Dayot Upamecano given he’s been linked to Arsenal, Tottenham and Barcelona before. Now, Liverpool fans in particular were blown away by the Frenchman’s performance against Tottenham during Tuesday’s Champions League clash.
Leipzig’s performance at the Red Bull Arena saw the home side fire three past Spurs, breezing into the quarter-finals on a 4-0 aggregate. Upamecano delivered a solid performance across the back-line, making six tackles and winning ten total duels (via Sofascore).
Liverpool fans are eyeing up the £45million valued French defender (Transfermarkt) as talks suggest that Dejan Lovren will most likely be leaving the club (per the Liverpool Echo) in the summer. Compared to the Croatian, the Frenchman averages more tackles (2.1 to 1.4 via WhoScored), interceptions (1.7 to 1) and blocks (0.8 to 0.7) per game.

Many Reds think Upamecano would be the perfect defensive signing, with one fan predicting him to be the ‘perfect Lovren replacement’. Other fans have described him as ‘magnificent’ and an ‘impassable wall’.
