Liverpool fans look back to when Andy Carroll was their record transfer

The last 12 months have been a whirlwind for Liverpool fans. Yesterday the club announced the signing of Alisson from Roma, making him the world’s most expensive goalkeeper and it’s all shaping up for a Premier League title challenge this season. Things haven’t always been breezy though, as the fans remember the days when Andy Carroll was their record signing.

Over the last 12 months and three transfer windows, Liverpool have signed six players for more than the £35 million that Andy Carroll cost them back in January 2011. We are now a long seven years and a half years away from that fateful window though and the Kopites enjoy watching champagne football week in week out under their revolutionary gaffer, Jurgen Klopp.

Across the last few seasons the Reds have been accused of conceding some soft goals, which has led to Klopp and FSG forking out world record fees for a defender and a goalkeeper to bring in Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk, whilst still funding moves for the likes of Naby Keita, Fabinho, Mo Salah and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain over the last year. It truly is the best time to be a Liverpool fan in the Premier League era and it will be no surprise if the Anfield faithful are celebrating winning the Premier League next May.
