Liverpool: Fans loved this footage of Jurgen Klopp in action during his playing days

A video of Jurgen Klopp during his playing days is doing the rounds on Twitter and many Liverpool fans are starstruck.

BT Sport have posted a throwback video to a tremendous solo goal scored by the current Reds manager during a performance for Mainz. In the clip, Klopp races from the halfway line and slots the ball calmly home from inside the box, making light work of evading the opposition’s defence.

According to the German’s Transfermarkt page, he played in both the right-back position as well as up front as a striker. During his time with Mainz, he made 340 appearances and scored 56 goals. Klopp later went on to coach the team before moving to Dortmund, where he won two Bundesliga titles.

Plenty of Liverpool fans have flooded the comments of BT’s video, with one tweeting ‘So that’s where Matip gets it from’ as the centre-back has been known to take on the opposition’s defence from high up the pitch. Another supporter has described the clip as ‘naughty’ as they marvel at Klopp’s pace.
