Liverpool fans were pleased with the news that colossus Virgil van Dijk took himself out of the Netherlands’ side on Sunday.
The 28-year-old led the national team to a 0-0 draw against Northern Ireland on Saturday, which was enough to ensure qualification for next summer’s European Championships.
The Reds centre-back will miss Holland’s final qualifier in Amsterdam, and the Dutch FA have explained that his absence is due to ‘personal circumstances’.
With a big game on the horizon against Crystal Palace on Saturday, he now has the chance to rest up before Liverpool’s trip to Selhurst Park.
