Whilst Luis Suarez was the big talking point in the sides’ clash in the Champions League semi-final, Liverpool fans certainly weren’t keen to forgive his Barcelona teammate Philippe Coutinho either. The Brazilian’s every touch was booed at Anfield, and after the circumstances surrounding his long-awaited departure to the Camp Nou in January 2018, it was little surprise why. After Reds chairman Tom Werner claimed (via the Liverpool Echo) the 26-year-old ‘probably regrets’ leaving Anfield, many Liverpool fans took to social media to slam Coutinho and his decision.
Some fans described the Brazil international as a ‘little child’ after his behaviour in angling for a move to Spain, and labelled him as a ‘disgrace’. Since joining the Catalan giants, Coutinho (who remains £90m-rated by Transfermarkt) has endured a torrid time, and has failed to recapture the form that set the Premier League alight.
Indeed, such has been his struggles that even the Barcelona fans have begun to turn him, with a few Reds supporters on Twitter suggesting that the La Liga champions probably ‘regret’ signing him too. With suggestions that the midfielder also invented a back injury to keep him out of playing in his final months at Anfield, many fans seemingly had little sympathy for their former star.
