Plenty of Liverpool fans have responded to James Milner’s tweet following Wednesday night’s defeat to Atletico de Madrid in the Champions League.
Milner joined the Reds back in July 2015 from Manchester City and has since gone on to win the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup with the Merseyside outfit (Transfermarkt) – making 145 appearances and scoring 19 goals in the process.
The reigning European Champions lost 4-2 on aggregate after Atleti’s Fernando Llorente scored twice in injury time – followed by a third goal from Alvaro Morata to seal Atletico’s place in the quarter-finals.
In the aftermath of Liverpool’s defeat, the 34-year-old took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the game after many felt that Liverpool deserved to progress in the competition after their impressive performance – some fans felt that the loss will help the Reds’ form, whilst others were proud of the players and their performance.
Not the finish we wanted – but players & fans gave it everything till the end. I’m proud to be part of this great club #YNWA pic.twitter.com/ypKiXQNHLs
