Liverpool legend and current Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has held informal talks about taking over from Jurgen Klopp in the future, according to the Athletic.

Gerrard, currently leading the blue half of Glasgow from Ibrox, recently signed a new contract at Ibrox, keeping him at the club until 2024.
Klopp did exactly the same at Anfield, making links of the former Reds captain succeeding the German inevitable.
Gerrard currently has Rangers in second place in the Scottish Premiership, just two points behind leaders Celtic after the first 16 games of the season.
He also guided them to the final of the Betfred Cup, where they were beaten by their great rivals again.
Liverpool have risen back to the top of English football under Klopp, competing in consecutive Champions League finals and currently leading the Premier League by 10 points.
If Klopp were to leave the club anytime soon, Gerrard would be a popular choice to replace him, but fans are keen to see more of his managerial abilities tested at a higher level.

Not sure that Scotland is the best place to be cutting your teeth for the Premier League. If he came up short there, for whatever reason, would Liverpool bend to sentiment?

He could very well develop into a top class manager by 2024. But at this moment in time, he’s nowhere near the calibre we need. Let’s not make the same mistakes when we got rid of Rafa and replaced with poor candidates. We need proven top quality
