Liverpool: Fans blast ‘cowardly act’ from Jordan Pickford during Merseyside derby

Lots of Liverpool fans rushed to social media to criticise Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford after he escaped punishment during the Merseyside derby.

The 26-year-old went over the top of the ball and went straight through the Reds’ talismanic defender Virgil van Dijk, who left the field injured shortly after the visitors took the lead at Goodison Park.

The officials ruled that the Dutchman was offside before the ball was played to him just before Pickford’s wretched tackle, which one supporter slammed as a “cowardly act”.

Van Dijk was down for some time as he was given treatment by the medical staff, but was unable to continue as Joe Gomez replaced him early in the game.

Predictably, many Reds supporters were livid with the England shot-stopper, who got away with the challenge as Everton went on to score from a corner thanks to Michael Keane’s header – indeed, one Kopite dubbed the much-maligned 26-year-old a “clown”.
