Liverpool: Fans slam Rio Ferdinand after accusing Jurgen Klopp of “taking a liberty”

Loads of Liverpool fans have slammed former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand after making comments about Jurgen Klopp’s FA Cup stance.

The German tactician explained following his side’s 2-2 draw against Shrewsbury Town on Sunday that he would not be taking charge of the Reds’ fourth-round replay. According to the Reds chief, this was due to the winter break that the Premier League had organised at the end of last season, which Klopp was asked to respect. Indeed, as a result, U23s boss Neil Critchley will be the boss once again for the evening and the youth team will be played at Anfield.

If Klopp follows his word, it will be a repeat of Liverpool’s 5-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup, where the Merseysiders were playing in Qatar the day after and played the reserve team as a result. Ferdinand had an issue with this and told BT Sport (cited by the Liverpool Echo) that he was “taking a liberty” by choosing not to manage the side, but totally understood his stance on shuffling the pack. Supporters were not impressed with his comments and made their frustrations clear on social media.
