Roberto Firmino missed a golden chance to end his barren run at Anfield on Saturday, leading some Reds fans to call for a summer swoop for Timo Werner to replace the Brazilian.
There’s no question Firmino is an excellent footballer, and what he provides for Jurgen Klopp’s side cannot simply be quantified by goals and assists. However, it is scarcely believable that the runaway Premier League leaders are yet to see their number nine score a home goal this season, especially after the chance he spurned at the end of the win over Bournemouth.
Mohamed Salah’s excellent breakaway and pass set Firmino up on the penalty spot with just the keeper to beat, but the £81m-rated (Transfermarkt) ace blazed his first-time effort over the bar, leaving just a hint of doubt that the visitors could still get back into the match and leading one fan to label him as ‘awful’.
