Liverpool: Fans react to Virgil van Dijk’s recent comments on ‘world class’ Naby Keita

Virgil van Dijk has heaped praise on one of his Liverpool teammates in particular during a recent interview with the club.

Speaking to the club’s official website following their historic Premier League title win, the Dutchman has been waxing lyrical over Naby Keita’s recent performances.

“I’m just very happy for Naby,” the centre-back told liverpoolfc.com. “Naby is a fantastic guy, he works so hard and he is an outstanding football player. We see it week in and week out. He has unfortunately been unlucky with some injuries, but hopefully he can stay fully fit for the next season.”

Indeed, Keita had a tough time battling with injuries this season. He missed the start of the campaign due to a muscle tear and was sidelined for a total of 17 matches across all competitions because of various injury problems (via Transfermarkt). Since he joined the Reds in 2018 for a then-club record fee of £48m, Keita has featured in just 60 games across his first two years at Anfield.

His recent burst of form seems to have put him on the right track, though, tallying three goal involvements since football restarted in mid-June (as per Transfermarkt). Keita’s new-found confidence has got many fans back on his side, as they have been lauding his impressive performances.

Van Dijk has labelled the Guinean as ‘world class’, with which one fan in particular agrees after tweeting ‘Virgil knows’.
