Liverpool: Fans want Philippe Coutinho back after he helps Bayern Munich reach Champions League final

A number of Liverpool fans have implored the club to re-sign Philippe Coutinho after he helped Bayern Munich to reach the Champions League final last night.

The Brazilian playmaker, who left Anfield for Barcelona in January 2018, contributed to the downfall of his parent club in the competition when he scored twice against them in Bayern’s 8-2 demolition of the La Liga side six days ago.

He had to be content with a substitute’s role again last night’s 3-0 win against Lyon but he showed glimpses of him at his best during his 15-minute appearance, completing nine of his 10 passes and finishing to the net from a thread pass by Thomas Muller, only to have the goal ruled out for offside.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with one of Coutinho’s team-mates in Thiago Alcantara recently, with Fabrizio Romano writing in The Guardian this week that the Reds are keen on the Spain international but are unwilling to meet Bayern’s asking price.

Coutinho left Anfield under something of a cloud in 2018, with Calciomercato claiming that he paid several million pounds from his own pocket to force through his £142m move to Barcelona.

However, with the 28-year-old making an impact and potentially set to become a Champions League winner, these Liverpool supporters would gladly welcome him back on Merseyside, with one Kopite describing him as a “phenomenal” player:
