Liverpool: Fans weren’t impressed by Nat Phillips’ FA Cup performance vs Everton

Liverpool fans had plenty to digest after seeing several young players get their first meaningful Anfield action during Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Everton, and now that the dust has settled there is one player who is receiving some stick on social media.

That player is Nat Phillips, who returned to the club from a loan spell in Germany just last week.

Due to turn 23 in March, standing at 6 foot 3 and with 11 appearances under his belt for VfB Stuttgart, fans may have expected him to be one of the more authoritative figures in Sunday’s young side, but he was a bag of nerves at times during the first half.

The Toffees had three brilliant chances to score in the first 45 minutes at Anfield, and although they were all foiled by Adrian, fans didn’t miss the fact that Phillips looked a yard off the pace.

Per Sofascore, he recorded one of the lowest match ratings on the pitch with 6.8 out of 10, winning just two out of ten duels, perhaps why one supporter said he had been ‘bullied’ by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

It was only his first senior appearance for the club and he did improve in the second 45, but those on Twitter were not impressed…
