Liverpool: Fans worry about the prospect of Virgil van Dijk missing Flamengo tie

Liverpool fans have been praying that defender Virgil van Dijk is fit to face Flamengo in the Club World Cup final this evening.

The 28-year-old sat out of the semi-final against Monterrey due to illness, with captain Jordan Henderson partnering Joe Gomez at centre-half.

Van Dijk trained with the side on Friday ahead of the crunch clash in Doha, with manager Jurgen Klopp keeping his cards close to his chest about the availability of his Dutch talisman.

Instead, the message from Klopp was “we will see“, which highlights his desire to ensure his selection remains a mystery for Flameng0.

Supporters were hopeful that Van Dijk would be fit enough for the final and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that he was on his knees in hope that he would be available for selection this evening.
