Kane warns Liverpool
The Reds won their first league title in 30 years during the 2019/20 campaign, finishing a massive 18 points ahead of their domestic rivals Manchester City in the standings (via Sky Sports), 13 months after they beat Spurs in the Champions League final in Madrid to capture their sixth European crown.
After yesterday’s draw with the Citizens at the Etihad Stadium, Liverpool sit in third place the league table as they maintain their charge towards retaining their title.
But speaking to reporters (cited by Goal), Kane, whose side were fifth before their win over West Brom yesterday and are now in second place, believes that Liverpool’s stroll last season will not be repeated as his side prepare a title challenge of their own.
“When you look at the ability of our squad, you would definitely say that we’ve got enough to win a title,” the striker told reporters ahead of Sunday’s game at The Hawthorns.
“But I’d also say that we’ve been close over the last four, five years and haven’t quite got over the line. So, it’s not as easy as just having a good squad – and winning a few games – to challenge for the title.
“But this is a season where I don’t think one team’s going to run away with it – like Liverpool last year. There’s going to be opportunities for other teams to put good runs together and get right up the table.
Transfer Tavern take
Kane’s message to Liverpool would have been understandable if the season was 15 games in but with the season still at the early stages, it’s a bold prediction to make that could make him look foolish if Spurs don’t challenge.
Klopp will not take any notice of the Englishman’s comments, and focus on the job in hand that is winning games of football.
It is unlikely that the German tactician will let any comments impact how he approaches a game, which is one of the reason why he and his team have been so successful in recent years.
In other news, Liverpool fans stunned by player development.
