Some Liverpool fans took exception to comments made by former club icon Jamie Carragher after the Reds’ 2-0 win against RB Leipzig on Tuesday night.
Speaking to CBS (cited by Anfield Watch), the 43-year-old voiced his concerns towards Jurgen Klopp’s side and their attacking prowess, despite scoring twice and keeping a clean sheet.
He said: “For how well Liverpool played last night, they still didn’t create an awful lot themselves. For me, going forward that’s still a problem.”
Fotmob suggested that Carragher may have a foundation to his claim after they revealed that Liverpool created just two big chances and produced fewer opportunities than the opposition.
Both goals on the night, from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, came from defensive mishaps from the Bundesliga club while they were incredibly wasteful down the other end.
But, for the Reds to have won 2-0 ‘away from home’ against Leipzig – a side who beat Manchester United in the group stages and knocked them out and are second in the Bundesliga table at the moment – certainly feels like Carragher is going slightly too far with his criticism.
Was Jamie Carragher right on Liverpool's win?
And after hearing his comments, supporters lambasted Carragher for being apparently overly-negative, and made their feelings clear to Anfield Watch on social media.
Fans not impressed with Carragher
“Stop being so negative Carra.”
“Nitpicking really, that. Talking like it was Newcastle away or something. Had about what you’d expect in a tough European away.”
“Needs to leg being so negative him”
“@Carra23 being negative again imagine my shock”
“Carra I love you but give it a rest. We got 2 away goals which has basically secured the tie back at Anfield and we were solid and look like we’re going back to winning ways be a bit biased! I know they were off mistakes but that won’t change anything.”
“Trust Carra to find a negative”
“This guy is stupid”
