Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided reassuring news regarding the club’s latest signing, Ozan Kabak.
The 20-year-old made the deadline day switch to Anfield from the Bundesliga side Schalke at the 11th hour, which came before the Reds announced the season-ending injury of Joel Matip having suffered ankle ligament damage.
Kabak will spend the rest of the 2020/21 campaign on loan in line to a permanent move in the summer if he impresses, with Preston centre-back Ben Davies also moving to Merseyside to sure up Liverpool’s defensive options.
The £22.5m-rated (Transfermarkt) Kabak did not feature against Brighton as he was waiting for his international clearance to play. But manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed in his press conference (via James Pearce) that he is now available for selection with his side squaring off against Manchester City on Sunday.
The German is a huge fan of the Turkey international and told the club’s official website that he was a “big talent” with a “proper personality”, which could be a hint that he has brought another talisman into the squad.
Transfer Tavern Verdict
This is great news for Liverpool and the supporters, as they try to resolve their devastating injury problems at the back this season.
While the Reds opted to decide to bring players in, the question remains regarding whether Kabak will be ready to be thrown in at the deep end, having contributed to very few training sessions before Sunday.
Victory against the Citizens will be a huge boost for everyone connected to the club, as they aim to put their dismal January run behind them.
