Liverpool’s star defender Virgil van Dijk has dropped a hint that suggests that he could be back playing sooner than expected.
Van Dijk early return?
The 29-year-old was ruled out for a significant amount of time last October after suffering cruciate ligament damage during his side’s 2-2 draw to Everton – where goalkeeper Jordan Pickford went unpunished after a high challenge that caused the injury.
Van Dijk has accumulated quite the fanbase in recent years due to his consistent performances and even recently acquired plaudits from Germany football legend Franz Beckenbauer – who recently told France Football (cited by Rousing The Kop) that he is a huge fan of his playing style and his assertive nature.
This follows on from comments made by Netherlands coach Frank de Boer – who expects him to be back for their opening Euro 2020 game in June.
Transfer Tavern Verdict
This is gargantuan for Liverpool and their supporters – and a suggestion that Van Dijk could be back soon than expected.
There was no timeframe initially put on his time on the sidelines, but typically a player can miss between 9-12 months of action, depending on the severity.
The 6 foot 3 centre-back won’t need telling, but he needs to keep doing what he is doing off the pitch and in the gym, if he wants to see any more action in a red shirt this season.
