Liverpool are believed to have reignited their interest in Denis Zakaria.

The Reds are thought to once again be in pursuit of the £32.4m-valued Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder - as per Transfermarkt - with the 23-year-old now back in action following the resumption of the Bundesliga over the past fortnight.

The coronavirus pandemic may have thrown future transfer business up in the air but, as the European champions and Premier League champions-elect - they are 25 points clear at the top of the table - the Reds will surely want to make a statement that they intend on staying at the top for the foreseeable future.

In Jurgen Klopp's midfield, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum have appeared the most regularly. Of the three, the latter's future is the most in doubt. Reports over the past few months have indicated that the Reds may be willing to let the Netherlands international depart, with him having just one year left on his contract.

Wijnaldum may have been a stalwart for Klopp at Anfield but Zakaria could allow the Reds to move forward. This season, he has outperformed the 29-year-old. As per SofaScore, he has managed more interceptions - 1.6 to 0.5 - and tackles - 2.1 to one - per match, whilst Zakaria has also managed to win 57% of all his duels. Wijnaldum has managed just 47%.

At the age of 23, he is also one for the future rather than just the here and now. Whilst Wijnaldum has been a fantastic servant, it is time for the Reds to upgrade by getting Zakaria on board.

Liverpool fans, do you think Zakaria would be an upgrade on Wijnaldum if the Reds can lure him to Anfield? Let us know what you think by commenting below!
