Liverpool: Fabrizio Romano provides update on Renato Sanches

Liverpool continue to be heavily linked with a move for Lille midfielder Renato Sanches.

Sanches to Anfield?

The 23-year-old has been on the radar of the Anfield club for the past few weeks, as manager Jurgen Klopp potentially prepares to dip into the transfer market in just over a week’s time.

Sanches, who was described as “incredibly valuable” by his former teammate Mats Hummels, had a spell at Swansea City on loan from Bayern Munich, making just 15 appearances before returning to Bavaria and was sold to Lille a year later for £18m (TransferMarkt).

Posting on Twitter, well-respected transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided a rounded update on the situation as to where Liverpool stand, and how Georginio Wijnaldum is part of the equation.

“Renato Sanches is on the list of many top clubs – he’s having a great season with Lille. But at the moment there’s nothing agreed with Liverpool for January transfer window. And looking at next summer, #LFC are still waiting for the official/final decision by Wijnaldum”

The future of the Dutchman has been up in the air for some time, and with just six months left on his contract, the Reds are seemingly putting measures in place for Sanches to fill his shoes.

Transfer Tavern Verdict

If Romano is correct, it appears that the Sanches deal entirely hinges on whether Wijnaldum signs a new deal or not.

Liverpool are already spoilt for choice as far as midfield options are concerned and a hefty wage bill during unstable economic times may force the Reds to look for cheaper alternatives.

That being said, time will tell as the months roll by, and Wijnaldum can officially talk to clubs in line for a summer move next month if an agreement isn’t found.

In other news, Liverpool’s Thiago provides intriguing Instagram post ahead of West Brom clash.
