Flocking to Twitter, many Liverpool fans have erupted over a fresh update on the pursuit of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Jurgen Klopp's side, currently flying high near the Premier League's summit, are aiming to regain the English top flight crown after current champions Manchester City left them trailing in their wake last season.

Losing just once so far this term in a 3-2 defeat to West Ham United, the Reds have put that dent behind them by winning their last three games in all competitions, scoring 10 goals without reply (liverpoolfc.com).

Regardless of their fine form, FSG have been tipped to potentially strengthen Klopp's options as some promising news emerges on their chase for Phillips. Indeed, according to chief sports writer Jeremy Cross of The Daily Star, Liverpool may now be boosted in their race to sign the England international.

The 25-year-old has apparently 'made it clear' that he has no intention to sign for Leeds' bitter rivals Manchester United next summer, a development which 'will leave the door open' for Liverpool to 'swoop in and make their own bid'.

Liverpool fans buzz...

Taking to social media amid this Phillips transfer boost, it's little wonder some Reds have been left buzzing on social media.

Out of Liverpool's entire midfield roster, none of them have managed to replicate the 25-year-old's consistent average of 2.4 tackles per 90 in the Premier League this season (WhoScored).

Phillips also earned praise for his brilliant performances at Euro 2020, where he was a fixture in Gareth Southgate's runners-up and England's top performer alongside Declan Rice in midfield (The Independent).

There is little dispute that he would provide a real dynamism in the middle of the park for Klopp, with a couple of Reds even calling him the 'perfect' heir to former Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum.
