Liverpool boosted as bargain Alexander-Arnold replacement "keen" on move - Liverpool Transfer Rumours

Liverpool are reeling from the loss of Trent Alexander-Arnold but may be boosted by the news that his replacement could be attainable for a bargain fee. Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen has a £30m release clause, as revealed by trusted inside man David Ornstein – who says the player would be keen on the move.

Speaking to NBC Sports, Ornstein said: “If they went for something different, something more multi-faceted, there are players potentially on the market like a Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen.”

“He has a €35 million (£30m, $40m)) release clause, something in the region of that, as I understand it.”

“I also believe that he would be keen on a move to Liverpool, if they decide to go down that route.”

“They will have other options as well, but Frimpong has been mentioned in a number of reports so far.”

Frimpong is seen by many as the perfect like for like replacement for Alexander-Arnold, for his attacking prowess and passing and crossing ability. Liverpool hasn’t yet officially registered an interest but it is widely believed that he is one of the names shortlisted by the club as a new right back.

The high flying Dutchman has been described as “amazing” and “lethal” by his Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman, and was one of the stars of last season’s invincible Bundesliga title run for the Leverkusen. He scored 14 goals and contributed 12 assists in 47 appearances in all competitions.

He has four goals and 12 assists in 47 appearances so far this season, as Leverkusen lost the title to Bayern.

Frimpong amongst top targets

Frimpong plays mainly as a wing back, overlapping and bombing down the flanks with his pace. His style of play would suit the Premier League, and the player has drawn interest from several clubs in the top flight. With youngster Conor Bradley set to be the only recognized right back at the club following Alexander-Arnold’s departure, Liverpool are said to be keeping tabs on a number of options including Frimpong.

Frimpong’s international teammate Denzel Dumfries is said to be admired by Liverpool as well. The powerful Inter Milan defender helped fire his club into a birth in the Champions League final this season, with goal contribution in both legs of their semi-final victory over Barcelona.

Dumfries is also lauded for his attacking prowess, contributing 6 goals and 2 assists in 26 Serie A appearances so far this season. His current deal doesn’t expire until June of 2028 though, so any move for him is considered to be expensive and difficult.

Ola Aina from Nottingham Forest is another on the list for the Reds, with the Nigeria international one of the standouts of the season. Forest are chasing Champions League football this campaign, and currently sit 3 points off of 5th place. His current deal is due to expire in the summer and Liverpool will be sniffing around his situation.

The list is rounded off by Brazilian pair Dodo and Venderson of Fiorentina and Monaco respectively.
