Liverpool are in a strong position in their quest to sign Donyell Malen, with fellow suitors concerned about the Reds getting him instead.

Jurgen Klopp may decide that fresh blood is needed in his attack this summer, in order to provide more competition for places.

Liverpool have flattered to deceive in the final third this season, in particular Roberto Firmino, with Diogo Jota's injury not helping matters.

With Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Firmino now all close to 30, however, long-term reinforcements may need to be eyed up.

PSV Eindhoven star Malen is reportedly someone Liverpool are keeping an eye on, with the 22-year-old scoring 21 goals this season, in all competitions.

Liverpool well-placed in Malen race

According to Gazzetta dello Sport [via Sport Witness], other big clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan are confident of signing Malen, ‘provided that Liverpool do not blow the bank’ on the Dutchman.

Although no fresh interest is reported from the Reds, it does again suggest that they are keen on acquiring the striker's services.

Transfer Tavern take

Malen could be an ideal player to come in this summer, with the Netherlands international at an age where he is still maturing and, therefore, wouldn't demand to start every week ahead of Liverpool's attacking heroes.

He arguably has the potential to blossom into one of Europe's most feared forwards - he has 31 total goal involvements this season and can play right across the front three - and the €30million (£25.6m) that PSV reportedly want for him could be a bargain.
